Separated parents in Oxfordshire are advised to plan ahead for summer school holidays
‘Don’t delay making summer parenting arrangements’: say the Family team at Slade Legal
Separated parents in Oxfordshire are being advised by Slade Legal’s family team to plan ahead now for the school summer holiday.
“The long school summer holiday brings a change of routine,” says Karen Newman, Consultant, Solicitor and Mediator at Slade Legal. Living arrangements that work well in term-time can be sadly inadequate in the summer.
“We are often asked for help by separated parents who cannot agree between themselves what will work best for the children during the school holidays. We can help, and we do.The key is not to leave it until the last day of term to think about these arrangements”.
Rising stress levels
The time children will spend with each parent during the summer break can be tricky to agree and, as the vacation approaches, the stress levels rise.
It’s not just about who will look after the children day-to-day. You may also need to consider special arrangements for one or other parent taking the children away for a summer break. In particular obtaining the consent of the other parent to overseas travel, or even trips to Scotland
And there are often the complications, for example:
How will any summer breaks be funded?
How might a parent’s new partner fit into the equation?
What role might grandparents play during the school holiday?
Slade Legal can help parents make a sensible plan that fits their unique family circumstances. Making the arrangements in good time will give certainty to both parents, bringing peace of mind, and ensuring the children know what is coming in the weeks ahead.
